A working budget in 20 minutes, using last month's real numbers.

झटपट जवाबAdd up your monthly take-home pay, subtract your bills and essentials, then give every remaining dollar a job — spending, savings, or debt. Written down beats remembered. Our Budget Builder does the math for you.

यह क्यों ज़रूरी है

A budget is not a punishment; it is information. Without one, the month ends and the money is simply gone — and nobody can fix a leak they can't see. With one, you decide in advance what matters, and the guilt around spending largely disappears, because planned spending is just the plan working.

कदम

1

Find your real take-home income

Use what actually lands in your account after taxes — the average of the last two or three months if it varies. If pay is irregular, budget on the lowest recent month, so surprises are pleasant ones.

2

List the fixed bills

Rent or mortgage, utilities, phone, insurance, minimum debt payments, subscriptions. These are the same-ish every month. Pull them from your statement, not memory — memory is kind and statements are honest.

3

Estimate the flexible essentials

Groceries, fuel or transit, household basics, medicine. Look at last month's actual spending and round up slightly.

4

Subtract and face the number

Income minus bills minus essentials is what's left for everything else. If it's negative, the budget didn't fail — it just delivered the news early enough to act on it. Start with our cut-expenses guide and the Find $500 challenge.

5

Give the remainder a job

Split what's left between savings (even $10 counts), extra debt payment, and honest fun money. Money without a job drifts; money with a name stays.

6

Check in weekly, adjust monthly

Five minutes a week: what's left in groceries, what's coming. A budget is a draft you keep editing, not a contract you break.

Worked example: $3,200 take-home

Take-home income$3,200
Rent + utilities + phone + insurance-$1,760
Groceries, fuel, household, medicine-$780
Minimum debt payments-$180
Left to assign$480
Assigned: savings $150 · extra debt $200 · fun $130$0 left over — on purpose

आम गलतियां

आगे क्या करें

Run your numbers in the Budget Builder, print or save the result, and set one automatic savings transfer for payday — even a small one. Next month, do the 10-minute version: same plan, updated numbers.
