Skip the cold platforms at first; your existing network converts far better. Announce the specific service ('I'm editing resumes / building spreadsheets / fixing small websites, first three at $X') where people already trust you. Do three excellent cheap jobs for the testimonials, then raise prices and take the portfolio to Upwork-style platforms where reviews now do the selling. The trap to skip: weeks polishing a website and logo before anyone asked. The first client buys the service, not the branding. Sell first, decorate later.
Are paid-survey and micro-task sites worth anything?
As income, mostly no: typical effective rates land far below any wage you would accept, which is a hobby with a payout, not work. Exceptions worth knowing: moderated research studies and user-testing sessions (screened, scheduled, an hour or less through the platforms on this page) pay genuinely, just infrequently. The strategy that respects your time: treat sessions as found money when invitations land, and spend the actual hours building something with a wage: a skill, a client list, a certification.
